Call for Applications - 2022 EducationUSA Scholars Program

EducationUSA Lilongwe provides accurate, comprehensive and current guidance on all accredited institutions of higher education in the United States.

EducationUSA Malawi is currently receiving applications for the 2022 EducationUSA Scholars Program. In collaboration with World Connect Malawi, the program seeks to identify and recruit 30 academically talented secondary school students to join the virtual 2022 EducationUSA Scholars Program (ESP). Only students who are in their junior or senior year of secondary school, or have graduated from secondary school in 2021 are eligible to apply.

The program's mission is to assist prospective undergraduates in navigating the admissions process to U.S. colleges and universities to better their academic futures, with the goal of producing highly skilled and widely educated leaders to build tomorrow’s Malawi. EducationUSA Scholars will work with World Connect and EducationUSA from January 2022 to June 2023 to try and secure college admission and financial aid at U.S. colleges and universities. The program expects sincere commitment from the students to give back their energy and time to the program and to their communities.

The program is not limited geographically; however, students must be able to reach the program's offices in Lilongwe as required for full participation. For now, EducationUSA Malawi and World Connect are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in Malawi and the safety and wellbeing of students is its priority. The program will begin with solely virtual programming until it is safe to move to in-center programming. For this reason, students must have access to the internet on a bi-weekly basis for the entire duration of the program for full participation.

Whilst participation in the EducationUSA Scholars Program is free, students must understand and be prepared to pay for the costs of the U.S. university application process, which may include but are not limited to**:

  • U.S. College Application Fees
  • Registration fees required for standardized testing (SAT, ACT, or TOEFL etc.)
  • Internet data costs to participate in virtual programming
  • Transportation and accommodation costs to travel to nearest EducationUSA Center
  • Application mailing fees

**Select students who need financial support in the upfront cost of applying to U.S. universities or attending virtual/in-person sessions can select to be considered for EducationUSA Opportunity Funds (Demonstration of financial need, exceptional academic performance, supplement essay, and an interview will be required)

Please complete this application form available here and submit it together with the required documents listed by Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 11:59PM CAT.

Due to the high volume of applications expected, the program will ONLY respond to those who are successfully selected to participate in the program.
