Degree Training Opportunities in Education at Nalikule Technical College

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Malawians for admission into a four-year face-to-face training programme in the 2022 academic year leading, on successful completion, to attainment of a Bachelor of Education Degree in Sciences or Languages.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must:

  1. be school leavers who are holders of a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent obtained between 2018 to 2020;
  2. have a minimum of six (6) credits including English subject;
  3. have an aggregate of not more than ten (10) points in the two teaching subjects they are applying for; and
  4. not more than 35 years of age.

OR

  1. be holders of A-Level certificates obtained between the years 2018 to 2021.
  2. not more than 35 years of age.

PROGRAMMES

Details of the programmes are as follows:

Programme A: Bachelor of Education Science (Secondary)

Applicants must choose one combination of two subjects which will be their teaching subjects from the following:

(i) Mathematics and Biology

(ii) Mathematics and Chemistry

(iii) Mathematics and Physics. 

(iv) Mathematics and Computer Science

(v) Mathematics and Agriculture

(vi) Biology and Agriculture

(vii) Mathematics and Human Ecology (Home Economics) 

(viii) Agriculture and Human Ecology (Home Economics)

(ix) Human Ecology (Home Economics) and Biology

  • Applicants for combinations (i) and (ii) must have at least credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Physical Science/Chemistry and any other two (2) subjects.
  • Applicants for combination (iii) and (iv) must have at least credits in English, Mathematics, Physical Science/ physics and any other two (2) subjects.
  • Applicants for combinations (v) and (vi) must have at least credits in English, Mathematics and any other four (4) subjects, two (2) of which should be any of the following: Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry, Physics, Agriculture and Home Economics.
  • Applicants for combinations (vii), (viii) and (ix) must have at least credits in English, Mathematics, Physical Science/Chemistry and any other three (3) subjects, two (2) of which should be any of the following: Biology, Home Economics, Physics and Agriculture.

OR

  • At A-level, the candidate must have at least a grade C (3 points) in three subjects, two of which must be the teaching subjects they are applying for.
  • At O-level Candidates must have at least a grade C in English and Mathematics.

Programme B: Bachelor of Education Languages (Secondary)

Under this programme, only English and Linguistics, and African Languages will be offered. As such, applicants must have credits in Chichewa and English and any other four (4) subjects. Only short listed MSCE applicants will be required to sit for Entrance Examinations in three (3) papers: that is Numerical, Communication and Reasoning skills. Candidates who qualify through A-level certificates are exempted from taking entrance examinations. However, they will be required to present themselves on the day of registration for the examinations.

TRAINING CONDITIONS

  • Successful candidates will be required to pay a non-refundable financial contribution in tuition fee of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Malawi Kwacha (MK250, 000) per academic year. However, the fee is subject to revision from time to time.
  • The Ministry of Education and Nalikule College of Education will not be responsible for any form of allowances to trainees.

METHODS OF APPLICATION

  1. Applicants should apply for only ONE Programme clearly indicating:
  2. The programme they are applying for;
  3. Their preferred subject combination;
  4. Age; 
  5. Sex; and 
  6. MSCE/O-level grades and the years they were obtained.

PROCESSING FEE

All applicants should pay a non-refundable processing fee of ten thousand kwacha (K10,000.00). The processing fee should be deposited directly into the following bank account:

NB:

  • Former Nalikule College of Education and Domasi College of Education students who 
  • were withdrawn on academic or disciplinary grounds must not apply for this training.
  • Candidates with visual impairment should apply for Programme B.
  • Do not send your original certificates or notification of results, but photocopies.
  • Grades from two complete certificates will not be accepted,
  • Nalikule College of Education is implementing 50-50 policy on recruitment by gender. Therefore, female candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • For candidates with A-Level certificates, exemption from entrance examinations does not imply automatic selection.
  • Any application that does not meet the requirements will be disqualified.
  • Candidates should only apply to one College (either Nalikule College or Domasi College)
