Preamble

MwAPATA Institute, in partnership with the National Planning Commission (NPC), the Ministry of Agriculture, Center for Agricultural Research and Development (CARD) of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), and Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) are organizing the Malawi Annual Agricultural Policy Conference (MAAPC) to be held from 1st to 2nd June 2021 in Lilongwe, Malawi. This will be the first in a series of annual conferences aimed at providing a platform for disseminating new research findings to stakeholders, exploring partnerships in research, and increasing uptake of new research findings in policy making processes. The theme of the inaugural MAAPC is: Supporting Agriculture Transformation in Malawi: Beyond Research to Implementation. The expected output from the conference is integration of new research findings into Malawi’s agricultural policymaking processes to support agricultural transformation in line with the Malawi 2063 Vision.

Conference Thematic Areas

Theme 1: Agricultural productivity: Sharing research findings and identifying and promoting new innovations that can be scaled up. 

Theme 2: Agriculture commercialization: Sharing research findings and identifying viable agricultural value chains for investments and policy support.

Theme 3: Resilience in action: Support agri-food systems to absorb and recover from random shocks and stresses that affect agricultural production and livelihood. 

Theme 4: Supporting Malawi 2063 Vision: Role of research in informing medium- and long- term strategies for implementing the Malawi 2063 Vision. 

Call for proposals

The conference will comprise of oral presentations of research findings,as well as successful and scalable innovations around the conference themes. The MAAPC Secretariat is calling on all interested researchers and practitioners in the agriculture sector to submit presentation proposals to be considered for the conference. We are looking for: 

(1) research papers with clear policy recommendations around the conference themes; and/or 

(2) practical innovations designed to enhance agricultural productivity, commercialization, and agri-food systems resilience. 

The proposals should be submitted by the close of business on 21st April 2021.

Call for sponsors

Individuals and institutions interested in sponsoring the event are invited to submit an expression of interest. Sponsors will each be provided with a booth to showcase their work, and/or spaces to display agricultural technologies.
