An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Malawi University of Science and Technology for suitably qualified candidates to enroll and study under this prestigious institution of higher learning through Open, Distance and E-Learning (ODeL).
1. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
- Bachelor of Science in Sciences Education (4 years)
- Bachelor of Arts in Language, Communication and Culture (4 years)
- Diploma in African Musicology (2 years)
Admission Requirements
Applicants should possess an MSCE or IGSCE or their equivalent ‘O’ Level qualification with six credits including English obtained not earlier than 2016. Applicants must have scored an aggregate of not more than 30 points.
For those applying for consideration into the Bachelor of Science in Sciences Education programme, should in addition, have scored credit grades in Mathematics, Physical Science (or Physics and Chemistry) and Biology. Primary school teachers are encouraged to apply.
Those applying for Bachelor of Arts in Language, Communication and Culture programme must have a minimum of credit in any two of the following subjects: History, Life Skills, Social Studies, Creative Arts, Bible Knowledge, Performing Art and Languages.
Admission requirements for Diploma in Africa Musicology
Normal Entry
A candidate with six credits in MSCE and IGCSE (‘O’ level) or equivalent including English, and a combination of any two of the following subjects: Social Studies, Life Skills, Bible Knowledge, History, Performing Art, and Geography shall join at year one.
Mature Entry
A candidate with MSCE, IGCSE (‘O’ level) or equivalent, industrial experience and a ABRSM qualification from a recognized institution, shall join the programme at the beginning of year 1. Audition applies.
A candidate shall have:
- MSCE/IGCSE with at least 4 credits including English and any other social science subjects; and
- At least 2 years relevant on job experience
Tuition fees
a. Degree programmes
K400,000 per academic year, payable in two semesters.
b. Diploma programme
K300,000 per academic year, payable in two semesters
Mode of Delivery
Classes will be delivered online with limited face to face classes once per semester. Students will be expected to bear their own accommodation and living expenses during face-to-face sessions.
Mandatory Requirements
- A completed undergraduate application form which can either be collected in person from MUST Registry Office or through email upon a written request ([email protected]) or can be downloaded from the website: www.must.ac.mw
- Authenticated copies of academic certificates or notification of results.
- An original bank deposit slip of a non-refundable application fee of K5,000.

iii. Small-Scale Mineral Processing
6 Weeks (fully online)

iv. Introduction to Partnership and Agile Project Management
6 weeks (fully online)

v. Innovation Through Systems Design
6 weeks (4 weeks online and 2 weeks face to face practical sessions)

vi. Innovation through human-centred design
6 weeks (4 weeks online and 2 weeks face to face practical sessions)

vii. 3D Modelling designs using 3Ds Max
8 weeks (6 weeks online and 2 weeks face to face practical sessions)

Entry requirements for the short courses
A Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent. Experience in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
Note: No application fee is required for both online short courses and on-campus short courses
3. ON-CAMPUS SHORT COURSES
A. (1 week duration)
i. Questionnaire Design and Electronic Data Collection Using Android Devices
ii. Data Science Training with R
iii. Project Monitoring and Evaluation
Tuition fees
Participants will be required to pay K120,000 before the commencement of the course. The fee will cover tuition, refreshments and printing of the certificates.
B. (2 Weeks duration)
Principles of Project Finance (for Finance and Non-Finance Team Leaders and Managers)
Who can apply?
The course target people working in both the public and private sector, designed to equip them to understand, designing, interpretation, monitoring and evaluation of project finances and partnership arrangements.
Tuition fees
Participants will be required to pay K350,000 before the commencement of the course. The fee will cover tuition, refreshments and printing of certificates. The application deadline for on-campus short courses is 22nd October, 2021.
SHEAMA Scholarship Opportunity
There are few Strengthening Higher Education Access in Malawi Activity (SHEAMA) scholarship spaces available for online short courses only to candidates who obtained their MSCE qualifications through Community Day Secondary Schools (CDSS) and Open Secondary Schools (Night Schools). These scholarships target applicants from the rural districts of Karonga, Kasungu, Salima, Balaka, Mulanje and Chikwawa. Adolescent girls, young women and persons with disabilities, are particularly encouraged to apply. SHEAMA scholarships will be made available to a few candidates that will meet the program set criteria.
