UNIMA and Magomero College Collaborate to Offer Training in Social Work

The University of Malawi (UNIMA) in collaboration with Magomero College and the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare (MoGCDSW) are implementing a USAID supported project entitled:

Strengthening Social Welfare Workforce through in-service and pre-service training support,” with Cooperative Agreement Number: 72061221CA00003. The aim of the project is to increase the production of highly trained social workers that will strengthen the child protection work force in Malawi.

Applications are therefore invited from Malawian serving officers in the public sector or those working in social work agencies (Civil Society) for admission into the Bachelor of Social Science in Social Work (tenable at the University of Malawi) and Certificate in Social Work (tenable at Magomero College) for the 2021/2022 academic year.

BACHELOR OF SOCIAL SCIENCES (SOCIAL WORK) TENABLE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MALAWI

The admission requirements into the 4-year Bachelor of Social Science Degree in Social Work programme shall be:

  • A minimum of 2 years working experience in a field relevant to the program plus;
  • A Malawi School Certificate of Education or any equivalent O-Level qualification passed with six credits including ENGLISHor
  • A-Level qualification with not more than 9 points in the best three subjects, or
  • A Malawi School Certificate of Education or any equivalent O-Level qualification passed with four credits including ENGLISH, plus a certificate in Social Welfare or Community Development with a strong pass from recognised institutions.

CERTIFICATE IN SOCIAL WORK TENABLE AT MAGOMERO COLLEGE

The admission requirements into the 1-year Certificate in Social Work programme shall be:

  • MSCE or its equivalent with at least 4 credits including English.
  • Evidence of working in a child protection sector for at least 2 years for Government or Civil Society serving officers.

 NB: The shortlisted applicants will be subjected to Entrance Examinations/Interviews.
