About the Japanese Government Postgraduate Scholarships for Research Students 2022

The Government of Japan is offering the 2022 Japanese Government Postgraduate Scholarships to eligible Malawians who wish to study at Japanese universities as research students (masters, doctorate, professional graduate, or research programs).

The aim is to assist those who have clear research purposes and wish to conduct their studies in Japan and also to contribute to the friendship between Japan and Malawi.

Please read the following carefully and submit your application to the Embassy of Japan in Malawi (the address is at the bottom) no later than Friday, June 4, 2021. Please note that the application forms and guidelines are only available from the official website and the Embassy will not give out hard copies. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Please be aware that depending on the COVID-19 situation, the 2022 Japanese Government Scholarship is subject to schedule change, halt or even cancellation.

Eligibility

• Master’s candidates should possess a minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree with a higher credit
• PhD candidates should possess a minimum qualification of a Master’s degree with a credi
• Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1987
• Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese and to deepen their understanding of Japan
• Applicants must have the nationality of Malawi

Application Procedure

• Applications must be hand delivered or sent by post to the Embassy of Japan, by Friday June 4, 2021.
• Please indicate ''2022 Postgraduate Scholarships for Research Students" on the envelope. 
• Incomplete application packs will not be processed. 
• Applications which arrive at the Embassy after the deadline cannot be accepted. 
• Candidates who pass the screening of the documents will be invited for a written exam (Friday 18 June, 2021, Lilongwe) and an interview (Friday 16 July, 2021 in Lilongwe). The venue and time will be communicated only to successful candidates in due course.
